From Burnout to Brilliance: 8 Keys to Embodied Success®

Are you succeeding on paper but quietly burning out behind the scenes?

That was me — a high achiever by every definition, but one whose body finally said enough. Now I help people avoid that fate so they can play full out without burnout.

Here’s the truth behind the scenes… many high achievers are secretly running on empty. They are burning out in silence while appearing “successful.”

We are living through a time of intense volatility. Global conflict, economic uncertainty, rising interest rates, mass layoffs, and shifting regulations are no longer occasional headlines — they’re the new normal. The pressure to perform, pivot, and persevere is unrelenting. Even the most driven leaders are struggling to stay grounded.

Behind the polished exterior is a mind in overdrive and a body stuck in survival mode. Stress shows up as scattered thinking, sleepless nights, strained relationships, and the quiet erosion of joy and purpose. Does that sound familiar? You may have physical symptoms like headaches, stomach issues, or muscle pain.  You may turn to vices like overeating, overspending, smoking or excess alcohol. Perhaps you are doubting your decisions and capabilities. Imposter syndrome keeps rearing its head. The old strategies — pushing harder, doing more, numbing out — no longer work.

What if you could achieve more by doing less? Imagine having unshakeable confidence in the midst of uncertainty? How would your life change if you knew exactly what your “secret sauce” was — what makes you stand out and invaluable regardless of the economic climate? What if peace, presence, and performance weren’t opposites — but partners?

In times of uncertainty, inner stability is the new competitive edge.

The world may be in chaos, but you don’t have to be. It’s time for a new way of living and working — from the inside out. It isn’t about hustle. It isn’t just mindset coaching. It’s not just performance psychology. It’s full-system transformation — mind, body, purpose, and presence — so you can live, lead and create from a place of clarity, authenticity, deep alignment, and grounded power. When the external environment is unstable, you need an inner foundation you can trust.

My Unexpected Detour

My path to this new way of being was unplanned. I fully embraced the old paradigm of grinding long and hard — and it worked for a while.

I skipped two grades and was selected as one of Glamour magazine’s Top 10 College Women in America. I was the youngest in my class at both Wellesley College and Harvard Business School – and the youngest research associate at Harvard Business School consulting and writing case studies for the MBA program.

At the dawn of the commercial Internet, I founded VH1 Online and the VH1@Work Radio Network. We did the first simultaneous webcast and broadcast with superstars like Michael Jackson, Paul McCartney and Garth Brooks. I became the youngest Vice President at MTV Networks, still in my 20s, negotiating multimillion-dollar deals and managing partnerships with tech giants like Microsoft, Yahoo!, AOL, and Intel.

From the outside, I was living the dream. On the inside, my nervous system was in overdrive — and my body couldn’t keep up. I would often eat lunch and dinner at my desk, unless I was at a late-night music event. My sister once said, “I speak to your assistant more than I speak to you.”

In 1997, my world stopped. I lost 20 pounds in just two weeks. I couldn’t hold down food. I could hardly drink water without throwing it up. After a 10-day hospital stay hooked up to multiple IVs, I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease, a chronic autoimmune disorder. It was likely hereditary, but I believe my workaholic tendencies brought it to the surface.

My body had gone to war against itself — not because I was weak, but because I was disconnected.  I was working too much, sleeping too little, eating processed foods, exercising infrequently, and not taking time to nurture myself. It was not sustainable.

My success came at the cost of my health, my peace, and my presence. But that moment became the catalyst for something greater.

I chose a different path — one of deep healing and transformation. My amazing mother had gotten into holistic health in the early ‘70s. She helped me devise a custom, integrated protocol. I went gluten-free before most people even knew what that was and got back into what I had grown up with — yoga, meditation, breathwork, plant-based eating, and spirituality.

I rebuilt my life from the inside out and trained in multiple modalities. I went back to MTV Networks for another couple of years and became even more productive. I helped launch six digital cable networks. However, my perspective had shifted. I left MTVN partly because I wanted to launch my own business and partly because I wanted to spend time with my father who had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. I was making values-based decisions. My last day was when my favorite aunt died of breast cancer. That was it. I couldn’t miss out on life anymore and fundamental wellbeing was a theme all around me.

I dove deeply into what made the human brain, body and spirit THRIVE and then dedicated my career to helping others transform.

Right after the tragic 9/11 in New York — which I had to escape from — I founded the first yoga studio in Harlem, the Ta Yoga House. I felt that the city needed healing.

Many of my business colleagues thought I lost my mind leaving a successful corporate career. Wellness was not a hot topic back then and mindfulness was not in the mainstream vernacular. Yoga was not even popular yet. At one point, a well-known venture capitalist wanted me to run a telecommunications company he was buying and I turned him down. It didn’t make logical sense, but I was clearly being called in a different direction.

My shift was considered so dramatic at the time that it was covered in media like The New York Times, NBC, Fox TV News, Hallmark TV, Prevention, Women Entrepreneur, Yoga Journal, Essence, Black Enterprise and even Oprah’s book, Live Your Best Life! My story travelled around the world to Fit’N Style magazine in Lebanon, El Mercurio in Chile, Tokyo FM in Japan, and as a feature in a documentary on ARD TV in Germany.

Something resonated with people. Perhaps they wanted to transform but didn’t know where to start.

The result for me was game-changing. In learning how to heal myself, I learned about myself and found my purpose. I realized that I absolutely love to write, speak, moderate and produce. Now my work as a global change agent is more authentic and fulfilling.

I was selected as a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader and have participated in exclusive forums around the world, including being a Discussion Leader at the Annual Meeting in Davos for the “Economics of Happiness.”

Yoga master Tao Porchon-Lynch asked me and my mother to be her biographers. We co-authored two award-winning books and developed multiple online courses. Tao and I travelled together for a decade and did 66 events spanning 10 countries. We were both featured in 2017 Athleta “Power of She” campaign for inspiring women and girls. I arranged for Tao to speak at some of the empowerment events for which I was booked, and she shared the stage with His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Dr. Deepak Chopra, Sadhguru, and other notables. When she died in 2020 at age 101, she had become a global historical icon through our media management.

None of that was in my long-term career plan. However, that unexpected detour gave me the most profound education in life and became the foundation for what I now teach to high achievers, creatives, and change agents around the world.
